A winning combination of specialist flooring systems has been installed at the Heineken Brewery at Hennopsriver in South Africa, marking the first time for resin floor screeds to be specified for any Heineken facility worldwide.
Working with BKS consulting engineers, the brewmaster and main contractor Grinaker LTA from an early stage in the project, Flowcrete secured a Floorzone specification based on the advantages of seamless systems over conventional tiled floors to meet the range of performance criteria encountered in different areas of the brewery.
For the Boiler House, Utilities Area and Workshop, Flowcrete’s self-levelling Flowshield SL was installed at 3mm. In the Fermentation Room, which houses a bank of 500,000 litre tanks of fermenting brew, Flowcrete’s antimicrobial Flowfresh MF was installed at 4mm.
The joint-free surface prevents build-up of dirt while the abrasion and chemical resistant properties of both systems provide a hard-waring, long-lasting floor finish able to withstand the heavy duty operational environment. Plinths and columns in all areas were coated with Flowtex HT.
The 27,000sqm installation was completed in challenging environmental conditions due to the coldest winter to hit the Highveld region for 65 years.
